The Pizza Spreadsheet

Image
Being a picky eater was a hot topic during my summer internship at Caterpillar this past summer. My group was very interactive and we went out for weekly lunches as a group for “team bonding.” Side note: I promise you, you will never regret this in the workplace… always have team bonding over food! So, with this being said, here is a little background: it was always difficult to go out to eat because like, I’m me, and my food groups consist of salad, nuggets, and pizza. One day, my boss made a comment about what pizza places I like. The basic girl I am responds with “Dominos, Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, etc.” because like he won’t know what La Roma’s is (his loss) . The judgment I got from this is where it all started… a pizza spreadsheet was born and everyone made recommendations on pizza places in the area. We then took a team vote and ranked the pizza places as such. Not only did we try a new pizza place every week, we ranked them based on taste and quality food. T

You Don't Mess with the Cobbler

One of the worst experiences a picky eater can have, other than being asked to go to dinner at a restaurant, is getting invited over to someone’s house to have dinner. Gosh, all these food invites need to STAHP. It’s one thing to be picky and to be very particular of what to order at a restaurant, but it is a completely different story when someone is cooking you a meal. It can be really insulting when one doesn’t eat the meal given and I feel like I always run into this issue. There have been several circumstances in my lifetime that I have had to choke down some food somewhere without literally being ill. Sometimes it can be a good experience to try new things, but 9 times out of 10 I would rather die.   I remember this one time that I went to a friend’s house and they invited me to stay for dinner. Give or take my friends all know about my picky eating habits and obviously just enjoy watching me suffer (they think it’s hilarious). The meal sounded pretty simple

Tips 'N Tricks

As a picky eater, choosing what types of food to eat and how to eat them is already hard enough. But, with this being my fifteenth year at it, I have come down to a few tricks that help going to restaurants easier and simply just tricks to "spice" up your life. When I say spice up, I mean spice up in a picky eater fashion.  Buffalo Wild Wings Bdubs is my absolute favorite place to go because, like, chicken wings. Wings are the one food I can't really be picky about because I just love them so much. well, they have to be boneless but it's whatever. I am a very avid Buffalo Wild Wing customer, so like first tip, download the app. You'll thank me later. Then lastly, order your wings bare with the sauce on the side. I know this sounds crazy but then, if you have leftovers, your wings won't be soggy and you can also control exactly how much sauce is on your wings. This helps when they put too much or not enough on the wings if they were ordered regularly

Don't Knock It Til You Try It

As a picky eater, I tend to have a lot of rules for what foods I will or will not eat. Based on previous posts, one would think my typical diet consists of chicken tenders and lettuce. The very basic meal for a picky eater. With that being said, I also enjoy some rather unusual snacks compared to the average person. Pickle Juice You’re probably wondering why this is on my list when the blog is about the adventures of picky eating. Well, if you know me, you know that I am OBSESSED with pickles. Dill pickles are my comfort food at any occasion. You see me at a family event? I probably have a handful of pickles in my hand or even the jar. Not only do I eat the pickles, but I drink the juice. We can’t be wasteful here ;) I get a straw and stick it right in the jar to drink. Yeah, it’s probably weird. But I love the tart flavor of pickle juice and hey! It has a lot of electrolytes. Popcorn with Nacho Cheese This snack brings me back to high school football games

The Sandwich Life

Image
Through my picky eating experiences, trying new foods has been a rather difficult time for me. (See blog Keep Calm and Don’t Eat the Food). But being a picky eater does have its downfalls. Since I have a particular set of foods that I eat, there isn’t much of a variety. As a result, eating the same foods all the time does get rather boring. So, slowly but surely, I have been attempting to branch out and try some new foods. The typical Kerstyn would only eat a burger with just cheese and ketchup or a sandwich with just lunch meat and bread. But, with that being said, here are some new sandwiches that I have enjoyed within the last year that everyone picky or not should try: Triple Bacon Burger Over the summer, my grandma was in town and we decided to go to Applebee’s. Well, one look at the menu and instant anxiety because I had no idea what on earth I was going to eat… that is when I saw it…the triple bacon burger. Bacon is one of my favorite foods so why not eat a burger
