My Reality

Food is something that always brings people together - family functions, work events, social gatherings, etc.

From the outside looking in, picking eating is just a way for you to dictate what meals you eat and what restaurant we go to. It's a "waste" of a good restaurant because who goes to a fancy restaurant just to order chicken tenders? You're so hard to cook for. You're just one of those trying to make up useless phobias. Welcome to the life of Kerstyn, where comments like these are made daily.

Food is my favorite thing in the world. Like literally, I take four pound bags of snacks to class on a daily basis. But when it is out of the norm, I avoid it like the plague. Being a picky eater is like being trapped. Imagine being in a situation where your anxiety is so heightened that all you want to do is puke. Yes, it sounds ridiculous but it is out of my control. It is a never ending battle I have with something that many believe can be fixed with the change of a meal. But in reality, it is like I am suffocating every time someone tries to force feed me new foods.

Asking to go out to dinner is a picky eater's worst nightmare. Always disappointing the people I eat with. Restricting the restaurants we go to. Making the waitresses lives harder with that detailed meal request. It's like something is wrong with me. Why can't I just be normal? Why must I always be difficult?

These are the questions I used to ask myself every day.

Comments

  1. I'm normally not a picky eater, but I can relate to this when I'm going to Chipotle. I like my order a very unique and particular way and if it doesn't end up being right it really bothers me. Always hate making it harder on the employees too.
