Food For Thought
PLATING
Not only is the physical food an important part of every meal, but even the plating as an impact to a picky eater. Depending on how the meal is plated, I wouldn't even dare touch it. No food should be mixing on any circumstances.
Buffets
I am that one person that every dishwasher probably hates. Buffets are where my picky eating really tends to stand out due to the fact that I can prepare my dishes exactly how I would like them to be. Since buffets give customers endless access to new plates and silverware, I am that person that puts every individual food on a different plate: potatoes = own plate, chicken = own plate, etc. Not only do I separate the foods by plate, I also get individual silverware for each plate making me a dishwasher's nightmare.
Restaurants
Sometimes, you just can't control how certain food is served. When this occurs, I simply do the best I can to separate the foods without looking like a total psychopath. (lol... little late huh?) There are some picky eaters that will not eat anything if even a small portion of the food is touching another food. I, on the other hand, have gotten a little better when it comes to that. If foods touch, I will simply just eat around that portion and leave it for one of my brothers (the endless pits).
SAUCES
When it comes to picky eating, I get the most awkward and uncooperative when my sauces begin to touch. That is the biggest 'hell no' in the book of Kerstyn.
Garlic Double Steakburger
This burger is my absolute favorite when it comes to Steak N Shake. It's one of those basic burgers that has the lettuce, tomato, ketchup, cheese, etc. with a fun touch of garlic. Not only do I result in ordering a meal without listing everything I do not want included on my burger, it is also about the process of how it is made. One of things included on my food phobia is the inability to let liquid foods touch. For example, on this burger there is a garlic mayo sauce included in the recipe along with ketchup. Because of this phobia, it requires a thought of how exactly it needs to be ordered. Silly enough, I will not eat this burger if the ketchup and garlic mayo are touching. Therefore, one sauce must be on the top bun (typically ketchup) whereas the other must be on the bottom bun (typically the garlic sauce). This is where the trickiness comes into play.
Wings
For anyone that knows me, chicken is my absolute FAVORITE FOOD, especially wings. It is a picky eater's go to meal at any restaurant he/she has never experienced before. Restaurants like Buffalo Wild Wings give many options on what potential sauces can be put on your chicken: Garlic Parmesan, Spicy Garlic, Medium, etc. They also typically serve wings with either ranch or blue cheese. But here is the catch. I can only eat one or the other. My food phobia makes wings an interesting subject. Do I want hot wings? or do I want bare wings with ranch? It is absolutely impossible for me to have the best of both worlds, because that's when my OCD kicks in. My ranch CANNOT touch my hot sauce.
By this part of my blogging semester, you probably think I am crazy... and honestly, I think so too. And trust me, I would fix it if I could.
I think your blog posts are so funny! Some things you mentioned I would have never thought of while ordering/eating food at a restaurant (hopefully I don't notice it too much because I feel like it might bother me too!). On a different note, I LOVE the Garlic Steakburgers from Steak N' Shake too! They're delicious! I was craving one right after I read your post.
